A roof is the most expensive thing most homeowners buy for their house after the house itself. Roofing SEO puts your company in front of them twice: in the map pack the morning after hail, and on page one while they compare replacement quotes for weeks.

Why roofing search is split between storms and planned replacements

Wind and hail are the biggest driver of home insurance losses in the US. Insurance Information Institute data, based on ISO figures, puts wind and hail at 42.5% of homeowners losses in 2023, with about 2.8 claims per 100 insured homes a year and an average claim of $14,747 from 2019 to 2023. After a hail storm, a whole zip code searches for roof inspections in the same week.

The rest of the year belongs to planned work. The 2025 Cost vs. Value Report prices an average asphalt shingle replacement at $31,871, with 67.5% of that recouped at resale, and a metal roof at $51,865. A job that size is researched for weeks. The Bureau of Labor Statistics counts 166,900 roofer jobs, 72% of them at roofing contractors, so most homeowners are comparing several local companies before they sign.

Who is searching

Three roofing customers, three different searches

Almost every roofing lead falls into one of three groups. They type different words, want different answers and judge you on different proof.

The leak

Water is coming through the ceiling. The search is "roof leak repair near me" or "emergency roof tarp", and the person calls one of the first three companies they see. Distance, open hours, review count and a phone number that gets answered decide this call. Your Business Profile does most of the work here.

The storm claim

A neighbor had an adjuster out, or the news showed hail. The search is "hail damage roof inspection" or "wind damage roof repair". These people want to know whether the damage is real, whether insurance will pay and who will deal with the adjuster. A page that explains your inspection, the photos you take and how you document damage for the claim earns this call.

The planned replacement

The roof is 20 years old, or the house is going on the market. The search is "roof replacement cost", "metal roof vs shingles" or "best roofers in [town]". This buyer reads, compares and asks for two or three quotes. Price ranges, material pages, warranty details, project photos and reviews that mention a full replacement win here.

Keyword map

Which page should rank for which roofing search

One page per job type keeps Google from guessing. This is the starting map we use, then we adjust it to the roof types you actually install.

Search groupExample searchesPage that should rank
Repairroof leak repair, missing shingles, flashing repairRoof repair page plus the Business Profile
Stormhail damage roof, wind damage roof inspectionStorm damage page with your claim process
Replacementroof replacement, new roof cost, reroofReplacement page with price ranges and steps

On the Business Profile, "Roofing contractor" is usually the primary category, with secondary categories such as gutter or siding work only if you really do it. We check the live category picker for your market, because Google does not publish a fixed list. This is the core of our Business Profile optimization for roofers.

Trust

Beating storm chasers on trust, not volume

After big storms, out-of-town crews knock on doors and flood the area with ads. The Better Business Bureau and consumer agencies warn homeowners to check licensing, insurance and references, to get a written contract and never to pay the full job up front. Smart homeowners now search for exactly that proof, so a local roofer should hand it to them on the page.

  • Show you are local. Your street address, years in the area and photos of jobs in nearby towns. A storm chaser cannot fake ten years of local reviews.
  • Show license and insurance. Your state license number, where required, and proof of liability and workers' comp coverage, stated plainly.
  • Explain warranties. The difference between the maker's material warranty and your workmanship warranty, and what a manufacturer certification adds.
  • Walk through the claim. What you inspect, what you photograph, when the homeowner should call their insurer and what you will and will not do with the adjuster.
  • Ask for reviews that name the job. "Replaced our roof after the hail in May" helps both the buyer and the ranking more than "great service".

Roofers are also an eligible category for Local Services Ads with the Google Verified badge. Those ads sit above the map pack, and we often pair them with SEO through our Local Services Ads management so you show up in both spots when storm calls spike.

Process

Our roofing SEO process, month by month

  1. Month one: rank grid and profile. We map where you show for repair, storm and replacement searches across your towns, then fix categories, services, photos and the review request flow.
  2. Month two: money pages. Repair, storm damage, replacement and your main materials, each with price ranges, steps, photos and questions homeowners ask.
  3. Month three: town pages. Built only for towns where you have real jobs, with project photos and local roof details such as common pitches, older housing stock or hail history.
  4. Ongoing: links and citations. Supplier and manufacturer directories, local sponsorships and consistent name, address and phone across listings.
  5. Before storm season: we refresh the storm page, test that calls are answered and set special hours on the profile if you extend them.
  6. Every month: calls and form leads by service and by town, so you can see if replacement work is growing, not only repairs.

The same groundwork sits behind our local SEO services for every trade; for roofers it is weighted toward high-ticket replacements and storm response.

FAQ

Questions we hear

How long does roofing SEO take to show results?

Business Profile fixes can move map rankings within a few weeks. Replacement and roof type pages usually need three to six months to climb, because those searches are competitive and Google wants to see links and reviews behind them.

Should a roofer build pages for storm damage and insurance claims?

Yes, if you do that work. A clear page on hail and wind inspections, what you document for the adjuster and what the homeowner should do first answers the exact questions people type after a storm.

Do manufacturer certifications help a roofing website rank?

Not directly. They help people choose you once they land on the page, which raises calls from the same traffic. Show the certification, explain what warranty it unlocks and link to the maker's contractor lookup.

Can you rank us in towns where we have no office?

For organic results, yes, with strong town pages built on real jobs. The map pack leans hard on distance from the searcher, so towns far from your address are harder there and we tell you that up front.

Is roofing SEO worth it in winter?

In colder states roof work slows down, but people still research replacements for spring. Winter is a good time to publish cost and material pages so they are ranking before the busy season starts.

Want more replacement jobs, not only repair calls?

Tell us your towns and the roofs you install. We will show where you rank today and the pages that would bring in bigger jobs.
